It’s time to look at your
mental health differently.
A common sense approach to therapy
based on years of counseling, teaching, coaching and mentoring.
Dr. Rhein is a licensed clinical psychologist who earned his MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University, one of the oldest and most selective psychology programs in the country. While at BU, he trained with David Barlow, one of the preeminent figures in the field of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology. Dr. Rhein’s dissertation, completed in 2001, was among the first to compare therapy conducted in person to telepsychology.
Dr. Rhein has held positions at Harvard's Graduate School of Education, the American Psychological Association and The American School in Switzerland. For the past 17 years he has directed counseling programs, taught and coached at boarding and day schools in the U.S. and abroad. His extensive training includes an undergraduate teaching fellowship as well as positions at Mass General Hospital, Boston University’s Center for Anxiety & Related Disorders, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
“Psychology is much bigger than just medicine, or fixing unhealthy things. It’s about education, work, marriage - it’s even about sports. What I want to do is see psychologists working to help people build strengths in all these domains.”

“If you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life.”
Dr. Rhein views therapy as being as integral to health as diet and exercise, and something that can benefit anyone whether they have a diagnosis or not. As the adage goes, “You don’t need to be sick in order to get better.” His approach draws on a deep background in CBT, DBT, Positive Psychology, and Sports & Performance Psychology.
Dr. Rhein takes patients from all walks of life, although the majority of his clients are high-achieving high schoolers, college students and recent graduates. For his patients, feeling seen and supported, and having regular access to the clarifying perspectives that therapy provides can be transformative as they navigate challenges, define goals, harness strengths and honor their potential.
“When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.”
Dr. Rhein’s practice offers therapy via telepsychology.
He provides services to clients in 42 states.
